The following is Hamas leader  in which he appreciates Iran’s support for the people of Palestine.

In the Name of God the Compassionate and the Merciful

To the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei

“Peace be unto you and so may the mercy of Allah and His blessings”

It is with great honor that I extend the appreciation of the government and the nation of Palestine as well as the wounded but victorious Gaza to your Excellency for your courageous and exceptional stance which indicated the wisdom of Islamic Iran’s leadership and the compassion of the Iranian nation.

Your words and messages before the offensive against Gaza and during the difficult days of war breathed the spirit of resistance, dignity and pride into the people of Gaza and its resistance fighters, encouraging them to stand firm against the enemy.

Under your guidance, the Islamic Republic of Iran played an active role in issues such as the Doha Summit on Gaza. These efforts came to the aid of the defenseless people of Palestine and brought them new hope.

With its all out support, Iran has helped the people of Palestine on the path of resistance. The victory of Gazans in the recent war, is in fact, the second victory for the Islamic resistance, the first being that of the 2006 war on southern Lebanon. May God bless you and the Iranian nation for your efforts and for your support.

The Iranian nation in light of your leadership has made every effort to come to the aid of Palestinians. These efforts make us proud and we are grateful for them.

The people of Palestine and especially Gazans are now in dire need of political and non-political as well as popular support in order to reconstruct Gaza.

The Palestinian nation desires a life of freedom and dignity, a life free of occupation and blockades. In order for us to achieve this, aside from divine assistance, the continuum of your Excellency’s and the Iranian nation’s support is required to enable us to stand against the US and the criminal Zionist regime.

Once again, I would like to extend the Palestinian nation and my own appreciation to your Excellency and the nation of Iran.

Your brother Ismail Haniya,

Prime Minister

His Eminence, the Religious Authority Sayyed Muhammad Hussein Fadlallah, addressed a letter to the new American President Barack Obama at the beginning of his tenure. The following is the text of the letter:

Dear Mr. President, the esteemed head of the United States of America, Barack Hussein Obama,

It appears clear to the entire world that the United States has reached a position that enabled it to control much of the world’s politics and economy and security, thanks to many factors, namely the US ability to benefit from and utilize the experiences of other nations, which has promoted the American society due to cultural diversity and pluralism. The election of an Afro-American person to the presidency represents one of the cultural values that characterize the American society, and these values are destined to influence change in the broad parameters of US policies.

The slogan of change – which is the title of the new tenure – reflects a philosophy for mankind in life. This philosophy deems criticism and self-change as a sustainable and continuous movement, and thus, a stagnant, durable, and unchangeable state of mankind will limit our growth, while the entire world around us is progressing in thoughts and means.

Therefore, we believe that change cannot be partial or selective, as it must embrace all the aspects of human activity, whether be it individual or collective, and whether made by groups, parties, states, or nations. Change must also be a movement that addresses the deep roots of any issue, not only the surface, even in terms of the underlying philosophies of human thought that had existed at a particular time.

In this regard, we stress that each and every human invention is deemed as an absolute truth for its creator, and is thus based on the specificity of his culture. This means that human life should be governed by dialogue, namely in the march of mankind to seek truth.

In this letter, we would like to addresses a number of significant issues:

First:

The world economy has undoubtedly suffered a major setback which raises the need to review the global economic system, not only in terms of its means, but also its rules, premises, and philosophies. We believe that one of the major factors that lead to the collapse of an economy is the absence of moral restraints, which turns the market into a monster devouring everyone, even those who have produced it. Also – the market becomes uncontrollable, even by those who laid down its regulations.

When signs of a global economic crisis had loomed in the horizons, we repeatedly called for probing the rich elements of Islam, in terms of the harmony between economy and values and the balance between the individual andthe social. This can establish a serious global dialogue – based on scientific and critical efforts – to serve as a firm bridge for global cooperation and for narrowing down the differences between the East and the West and between Islam and positivism.

Second:

The United States of America has ignited ruinous wars in the Islamic world, and destabilized it with internal feuds. We are not going to address – at the moment – the reasons, nor will we tackle the elements of the Islamic and Arab impotency that paved the way [for these feuds and wars], but we would rather like to address the immoral and uncivilized aspects that governed the US approach for a number of critical and sensitive issues in the world. This necessitates a radical change, not a superficial one:

A-The war on Afghanistan was staged in reaction to the September 11 attacks which were condemned by the entire world, and we were at the forefront, because these attacks are inconsistent with our Islamic values. The Holy Quran mentioned a moral and civilized value of justice, on the basis that every human being bears the responsibilities of his actions, not those of others. God Almighty said in his Holy Quran: “…No soul earns [evil] but against itself, and no bearer of burden shall bear the burden of another…”(06:164)

The perpetrators of the September 11 attacks are specific people or sides, while the flames of the war spread into many places, proving to many people that these events were only a pretext in order to stage a war, the purpose of which is to achieve strategic interests for the United States, through previously shaped plans to control the resources of the Muslim world, in a prelude to gain more cards in the US conflict with many sides and axes.

The following question arises in this context: Should we allow such a law to exist? In other words, is it justified for those assaulted by a person or a side to declare a war on all the members of the doer’s family, or the entire society to which this side belongs? The principles of law – which you know very well [addressing Obama] – maintain that the criminal alone should be punished for his crime, not any of his relatives who are not partners to the crime. If this were not the case , why don’t you justify – and we surely do not justify – for those assaulted by your army and oppressed by your policies – to kidnap and kill whoever belongs to your state? Isn’t this the same logic you act upon? As we present these facts, we aim at pointing out the nature of the crisis and problem that emanates tragedies, war, and destruction for mankind, particularly when the values of justice become absent, and are replaced by revengeful intentions akin to the tribal system back in the backward ages.

B-The United States waged a war on Iraq based on a deception as to weapons of mass destruction, and the United Nations Organization had opposed the American monopoly of the war decision at the time. This war placed Iraq and the entire region in the midst of a fire, the flames of which have reached your hands too. The question is: What are the restraints that must govern international policies so as to prevent another lie from spreading new tragedies worldwide, the ramifications of which might be uncontrollable this time? And who gives the right for any state, regardless of its magnitude, to appoint itself as a policeman for this world, and as a judge and executioner at the same time? Doesn’t this require from your country to change the way it deals with international law and paralyzes the function of the international organizations?

C- The size of support and cover-up provided by your country for the Zionist entity has become known. This entity was established on the land whose people were uprooted by the power of iron and fire. The subsequent American policies have contributed to the loss of the Palestinian cause, despite the ratification of many Security Council resolutions. The last heinous episode took place in Gaza and was among the most atrocious crimes throughout history.

The following question arises: To what extent will the US policy change, and thus give an open eye for what is happening in Palestine, even regarding the concessions which the Arabs and Palestinians have made, only under the American pressures that took many faces and colors? Is it possible to see any American pressures applied on Israel to abide by the international law that it has overlooked throughout its entire history? There is also another question, particularly after your recent speech in which you announced the appointment of international envoys to the Arab and Muslim region: Will Israel continue to be the driving force behind the American policy towards our region, or will the United States hammer out its own policy instead? We truly understand the size of pressures applied by various groups inside your country on your policy. But we know – as you too do – that there is only one face of justice, one that is subjected to objective criteria as to the right possessed by any side, regardless of its social or political or economic size. Imam Ali [a.s] said: “A weak person is strong in my eyes until I get his right paid to him, and a strong person is weak in my eyes until I take the right from him.” God said in his Holy Quran: “…When you speak, then be just though it be against a relative” [06: 152].

D- The subsequent American policies have undermined the willpower of the Arab and Muslim people, through empowering and protecting unjust dictatorships that sought to fulfill the American interests, despite the willpower of the people. For instance, during the first Gulf war, your army had empowered the former Iraqi regime to curb the Iraqi public Intifada…

Therefore, anyone raising the slogan of change must think thoroughly and make courageous and honorable decisions in standing up for what is right.

Third:

It has perhaps become clear to you, more than ever, that the exclusion policy practiced by your subsequent administrations has aroused anti-American sentiments. This brings us to the historical inevitability that whoever oppresses and unjustly treats other nations – by excluding them and accusing them of countless charges, is actually establishing a prison for himself. This has appeared clear when your subsequent administrations hurled terrorism charges at everyone whose interests contradicted with your state ; to the extent of accusing the entire world of terrorism. Therefore, you must conduct a revision, through identifying the values that govern your policies. We assume that we only need to implement justice, so as to avoid slipping into the war of terminologies imposed by the nature of the conflict directed by this or that state in the framework of its interests. Otherwise, is it conceivable that a term that is instrumental in defining a state’s policies lacks a clear definition and clear-cut standards?

Fourth:

The problem mankind suffers from has started since the beginning of time, and pertains to the arrogance that justifies people’s alienation from righteousness and surpass of justice and tendency towards hegemony, domination, predation, and exclusion. Here arises a key question: Does your promised change aims at getting rid of the mentality that governs the policies of many superpowers, namely your country?

Fifth:

We are not expecting the new administration in the United States to carry out unfeasible change, but he who pledges to pursue a track that differs from the previous one, must be honest with himself and with the people. His words must be translated into actions, because after all, history will measure every person’s success or failure with the yardstick of his actions not words.

Finally, our hands – as Arabs and Muslims – remained extended over many decades; to the extent that many accused us of political naivety, because we kept hurling flowers at our executioners and murderers. We believe that the world will not prosper and flourish unless all nations and peoples cooperate on the basis of goodness, righteousness, and justice. But we are advocates of change, and our hand will remain extended for all those who call for the change that is accompanied with actions, not words, on the basis of righteousness, goodness, justice, and peace that rests on all these values.

Webster’s Dictionary defines empire as: a major political unit having a territory of great extent or a number of territories or peoples under a single sovereign authority; especially: one having an emperor as chief of state.

Even though most of us do not call our “chief of state” Emperor, the USA is most certainly an empire. We have all the trappings of empire (military parades, glorious coronation balls, an elite few ruling the empire) but the Oligarchs (rule by the few) call it a “democracy” so the plebes must buy into the myth that our nation is in any way democratic. Our military is used for spreading colonial capitalism all over the world. Even in the heyday of the Roman Empire, most conquered local governments retained some autonomy, unless, of course, the will of the people conflicted with the will of the Emperor.

Is there any bigger bureaucracy than the US government…that contains the US Military Industrial Complex? At this point, it is hard to distinguish the two behemoths…does the MIC control the government or is it the other way around? Does the government support the MIC, or has the MIC overtaken the government to insure that the bloody empire continues? Is there an evil synergistic relationship between the two that will destroy the planet before The Empire® collapses under its own gluttonous weight?

Iqbal’s influence reaches far beyond South Asia, beyond Pakistan, where he is considered the national poet, and even regarded as the spiritual founder of the country. Through individuals such as, Imam Khomeini, Dr. Ali Shariati and Ayatullah Khamenei the Islamic Revolution in Iran was also influenced with Iqbal’s teachings. In Pakistan itself, much of this revolutionary message was relegated to songs, academia, and maybe written as decoration on trucks.

Without having actually read and/or understood Iqbal, there is an (empty) ritual for so-called “dignitaries” to visit his tomb, and after, say a few empty words in praise of someone they know nothing about. Perhaps this ignorance on part of the puppet “dignitaries” is for the best, because if they and their secularist imitationists (of the worst of the “west”) were to actually read what Iqbal has said, they would be clamoring to replace him with Kipling as their national poet.

More recently, a few individuals have begun to explore and explain Iqbal in a language that can be readily understood by the current generation of Pakistanis, many of whom, rightly disillusioned with western imperialism, have begun the journey of returning to their own selves (khudi). Iqbal, uniquely helps clarify the struggles ahead – loved by both Shi’a and Sunni his words can and does help bridge the imposed sectarianism that hampers Islamic movements in the country.

A number of his works have been translated into English, and are readily available in most any online bookstore – or, if out of print, through used bookstores.

Zaid Hamid has been discussing and clarifying Iqbal on his TV show Brasstacks – and the series can be viewed at this link (Urdu). (Scroll down to program # 42, for the series on Allama Iqbal and download the video).

Jawad Naqvi also has a number of lectures on Allama Iqbal – and they can be viewed at this link. At the website, search for Iqbal, and you’ll get the relevant lectures (Urdu).

A Descendant of Abu Lahab

By Hussein Shariatmadari

Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah remained tight-lipped over the entire course of the barbaric massacre of Gaza and its defenseless people by the criminal Zionist regime. He even encouraged the butchery based on the existing evidence and as confessed by Zionist President Shimon Pres and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert. More importantly, he banned public protests in Saudi Arabia during the 22-day genocide in Gaza.

A day after the ceasefire (January 19), he rather awkwardly tried to discard or at least trim down his shameful collaboration with the Zionist regime in the slaughter of Gaza during an economic summit of Arab leaders in Kuwait.

1-The state-run media in Saudi Arabia, such as Al-Arabia, talked about an Arab channel of compromise”. Several American and Western media outlets also quoted King Abdullah as saying that “a drop of Palestinian blood is much more precious than all the world’s treasures” in their columns and clumsy – read ridiculous and silly – analyses.

King Abdullah’s comments in support of the people of Gaza and its martyrs should be taken on a face-value as unlike the buzzed-up media outcry of the “Arabian channel of compromise”, King Abdullah once again voiced his support for the Zionist regime and justified its barbaric crimes!

2-Al-Arabia referred to King Abdullah’s remarks as “straight and lambasting”. It then, in a reference to Israel stated: “Not only Islam, but also the Torah has declared that an eye should be for an eye and not necessarily for the eyes of the entire Palestinian population”!

As things stand, the Saudi king had to adopt a safe and ineffective position against Israel under pressure from the world public opinion. But still he fell short of dropping his support for the Zionists. He cunningly blamed Hamas for the war and referred to the barbaric invasion of Gaza as some kind of reprisal against the “invasion” of Israel by Hamas! This is in fact the very same false claim that was made by the Zionist regime as a legal justification before its all-out invasion of Gaza and the barbaric killings of its defenseless people. The regime claimed that Hamas triggered the war first.

The Saudi king blamed Hamas for the war, though. Of course, he also rebuked the Zionists – just in case. For instance, he said why the legal right of retribution was so disproportionate on the part of Israel?! He then tried to show the Zionists as faultless. This is amid the fact that the kid killing Zionist leaders had said before the war that they would invade Gaza with the sole purpose of destroying Hamas – although they never anticipated that the conflict could last 22 days.

Zionist Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said in an interview that after the 33-day war on Lebanon’s Hezbollah that Israeli army had several exercises and that they had improved their weak points for a swift victory in Gaza! Shimon Perez lauded the capabilities of War Minister Ehud Olmert as well as General Gabi Ashkenazi in leading the war. But three days after the breakout of the war, and just when Israel found out that it had made a mistake in its calculations, they blamed Hamas for the breakout of the conflict.

3-As quoted by Al-Arabia, King Abdullah said in another part of his “historic” speech in Kuwait that: “Israel must understand and realize that the chance for choosing the two options of war or peace will not remain forever and that the Arab peace initiative will not stay on the table eternally.”

Firstly, the people of Palestine, unlike the Zionist regime and the double-crossing Arab leaders, are not after peace – read compromise – with Israel. Rather, they seek the liberation of Palestine. Therefore, the comments made by King Abdullah on peace or war as options not only fail to warn Israel, but also are a reminder and an emphasis on the long-established Israeli demand for ending the “intifada” and the Palestinian resistance.

Secondly, the Saudi King’s reference to the Arab-Israeli peace initiative is the very same plan known as the “King Abdullah Peace Initiative”.

Thirdly, Kayhan newspaper has on several occasions demonstrated in the past that this particular plan is ten times more outrageous than the Camp David.

4-In a reference to the Palestinian factions, i.e., the resistance groups of Hamas and Islamic Jihad and the PLO headed by the pro-Israeli Mahmoud Abbas, the Saudi king further said: “The Palestinian groups must appreciate that their differences are much more dangerous than Israeli attacks”!

He went on to state that Saudi Arabia will allocate $1 billion in aid for reconstruction of Gaza, emphasizing that the money will be handed over to Mahmoud Abbas – the very same Israeli element.

By urging the Palestinians to end their differences, King Abdullah was in fact asking Hamas and Islamic Jihad to end resistance and to recognize the leadership of Mahmoud Abbas. Indeed, the Saudi King has several times stated that he only recognizes the – pro-Israeli – government of Mahmoud Abbas (or Abu Mazen) and that the money will only go to the PLO.

5-The Saudi king further stated that: “Saudi Arabia would like to thank all those countries that helped stop murder and bloodshed in the Gaza Strip, mainly Egypt”! Apparently, he has forgotten that it was Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak who had phoned Shimon Peres and Olmert several times, urging them to bombard Gaza and obliterate Hamas. These two Zionist war criminals maintain that such an irrefutable charge has never been denied by Egypt or Saudi Arabia.

Just for the record, they never bothered to condemn the Zionist crimes during the 22-day war – at least in words. The Egyptian regime, equally, never bothered to reopen the Rafah Crossing for the women and children of Gaza.

Certainly, the descendent of Abu Lahab, a contemporary to the Prophet of Islam and cursed by God in the Holy Quran for his serious mischief against the Prophet (SAWA), has overlooked the truth that together with Hosni Mubarak, his collaboration with the Zionists in the massacre of the oppressed Palestinian people cannot and will not be forgotten and that a harsh punishment awaits them both. A punishment as such, although inconsiderate, will not be in this world, where they could still repent. Repentance in this world is only for those who would still be alive after their punishment.
