Al-Asi’s recent talk at an Islamic conference in Calgary, Canada - he touches on a wide range of topics including the role that Muslims need to take on in this time and age.

Brilliant.
La Sunni La Shi’a— Ummatan Wahidah
salaam,
I actually do not agree with the sentiment of la sunni la shi’a, partly because, invariably this means that the sunni view becomes dominant.
What I like better is that Sunnis and Shi’as at the very least learn about each other’s school, and to avoid the myth creating about each other. Al-Asi, while not classifying himself as either Shi’a or Sunni, does not suggest that these schools of Islam are to be done away with, infact, he explains that, based on the history of both these schools, one can arrive at a non and anti-tribalist mentality.
This is why he can and does speak at both Sunni and Shi’a venues (i.e. those Shi’a and Sunni venues who are willing to hear him, and are not under the fear of Sam, and/or wittingly, or unwittingly fulfilling his imperial purpose).
