a light

September 21st, 2008

Hu has made the stars in the skies, by way of signs by which travelers wandering the various routes of the earth may be guided. The gloom of the dark curtains of the night does not prevent the flame of their light, nor do the veils of blackish nights have the power to turn back the light of the moon when it spreads in the skies. (Imam Ali (AS) sermon #181)

night of Qadr

September 19th, 2008

And when it is night of Qadr, Allah, Most High and Mighty,

commands Jibraeel to descend to earth, with a phalanx of angels,

carrying a green standard. He fixes it at the rear of al-Ka’bah. And

he has six hundred wings, two of which he never spreads except on

the night of Qadr. He spreads those two wings on that night, till they

go beyond the East and the West. Then Jibraeel disperses the angels

in that night, so they greet everyone who is standing, sitting, praying

and chanting (remembering Allah). They shake hands with them,

and say Amin to their prayers, till the day breaks.

-Rasul Allah (peace and blessings on him and on his Family, narrated in Al Amali ch. 27. h. 3)

a true wrestler

September 18th, 2008

He (Imam Ali (AS) then asked: “Who is a wrestling champion among you?” They said: “One whom no one can defeat.” He said: “A real champion is one who remembers Allah and patiently quenches his anger whenever shaytan beats his heart with it’s fist to raise his anger. (Imam Ali (AS) Mishkat h. # 759)

the hypocrites

September 17th, 2008

They (the hypocrites) have continued after the Holy Prophet. They gained positions with the leaders of misguidance and callers towards Hell through falsehoods and slanders. So, they put them (the hypocrites) in high posts and made them officers over the heads of the people, and amassed wealth through them. (Imam Ali (AS) sermon #209)

pride

September 16th, 2008

If Allah were to allow anyone to indulge in pride He would have allowed it to his selected prophets and vicegerents. But Allah, the Sublime, disliked vanity for them and liked humbleness for them. Therefore, they laid their cheeks on the ground, smeared their faces with dust, bent themselves down for the believers and remained humble people. (Imam Ali (AS) sermon #191)

September 15th, 2008

If Allah had wanted to create Adam from a light whose glare would have dazzled the eyes, whose handsomeness would have amazed the wits and whose smell would have caught the breath, He could have done so; and if He had done so, they would have bowed to him in humility and the trial of the angels through him would have become easier. But Allah, the Glorified, tries His creatures, by means of those things whose real nature they do not know, in order to distinguish (good and bad) for them through the trial, and to remove vanity from them and keep them aloof from pride and self-admiration. (Imam Ali (AS) sermon #191)
