‘Those who remember Allah, standing, sitting, or lying on their sides, and reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth: Our Lord, You have not created this in vain, glory be to You! So save us from the chastisement of the fire.’ (Qur’an 3:191).

Manouchehr Mottaki (Iran’s Foreign Minister) address

Sunday, March 25th, 2007

This is not the first time the Security Council is asking Iran to abandon its rights. When Saddam Hussein invaded Iran 27 years ago, this Council waited 7 days so that Iraq could occupy 30000 sq kilometers of Iranian territory. Then it unanimously adopted Security Council Resolution 479. That unanimously adopted resolution asked the two sides to stop the hostilities, without asking the aggressor to withdraw.

That is, the Council — then too — effectively asked Iran to suspend the implementation of parts of its rights; at that time is its right to 30000 sq kilometers of its territory. As expected, the aggressor dutifully COMPLIED. But imagine what would have happened if Iran had COMPLIED. We would still be begging the Council’s then sweetheart, President Saddam Hussein, to return our territory. We did not accept to suspend our right to our territory. We resisted 8 years of carnage and use of chemical weapons coupled with pressure from this Council, and sanctions from its permanent members.

In the course of the war, the United States joined the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the Soviet Union along with other Western countries in providing Saddam with military hardware and intelligence and even the material for chemical and biological weapons. The Security Council was prevented for several years and in spite of mounting evidence and UN reports, to deal with the use of chemical weapons by Iraq against Iranian civilians and military personnel. I am confident that today, most of the permanent members of this Council, do not even want to remember that travesty of justice, the Charter and international law, let alone blame Iran for non-compliance with SCR 479.

Praise be to Him, Who makes praise followed by bounty and bounty with gratefulness. We praise Him on His bounties as on His trials. We seek His help against these hearts, which are slow to obey what they have been commanded but quick towards what they have been desisted from. (Imam Ali (AS), Nahj-ul-Balaga, sermon #113)

Everything submits to Him and everything exists by Him. He is the satisfaction of every poor, dignity of the low, energy for the weak and shelter for the oppressed. Whoever speaks, He hears his speaking, and whoever keeps quiet, He knows his secret. On Him is the livelihood of everyone who lives, and to Him returns whoever dies. (Imam Ali (AS) Nahj-ul-Balaga, sermon #108)

anti-puppet protests continue in Pakistan

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

Pakistan seemed to have turned into a state of political crisis in just few days and many are speculating this to be the beginning of the end of Musharraf regime. Musharraf has been a very good boy for America and has worked on to satisfy their interests at the stake of the values of the Muslim nation. In return, he has been granted the permission to be the non-elected leader of a so called democratic nation. But has the time come for Musharraf to descend, or he still has some more Mikaoli cards to play in his atrocious political tenure ? The majority in Pakistan are happy and looking forward to witness the downfall of Musharraf. But a political downfall for such a personality wont become a lesson for his successor. The question in place is not Musharraf. America has already identified many such Generals in the allies of RawalPindi (the cantonment town adjacent to Islamabad) who might do even a better job to start with.

Musharrafs arrogance went to the stage of decoupling of political wisdom out of it. The Mikaoli policy of cunning political games coupled with ferociousness was not worked out well by Musharraf. He was not able to play the balancing game, this is because he is not as shrewd a politician as compared to his dictatorial outlook. In simple words, he is a foolish military man, who has jumped out of Army Barracks into the parliament. He has always aimed to get things resolved by the neck. In this case of Chief Justice Iftikhar Choudhary , political wisdom demanded to not at all confront with the Chief justice in the manner he did. But one of the plans of Allah(s) with arrogant powers like him is that they commit mistakes out of their arrogance.

Imam Sadiq (a.s) said that Allah’s Prophet (peace be upon him and his Family) said: Certitude is the best wealth, and Allah’s worship is the best occupation. (attributed in Mishkat al-Anwar, h. 29)
